Senior Development Officer x 2
University of Manchester
££40,792 to £54,765, depending on experience

The University of Manchester is part of the prestigious Russell Group of British research universities and is the product of the civic university movement of the late-19th century. With 25 Nobel Prize winners among its current and former staff and students, it has a history of world firsts and brilliant discoveries, from splitting the atom, to the first stored-program computers, to giving the world the brand-new wonder material, ‘graphene’. The University’s vision is to be one of the leading universities in the world by 2020 through its commitment to world-class research, outstanding learning and student experience, and social responsibility.

Development and Alumni Engagement is an integral part of the University of Manchester today, with a President and Vice Chancellor who is personally engaged and over 400,000 alumni around the world. Over the past ten years, the University has significantly grown its fundraising income, with almost £100M received in the past five years alone. Philanthropic gifts to the University transform lives for the better through funding critical research into causes such as cancer, energy, and global poverty, and through the provision of scholarships.

Following internal promotions, the University now seeks to appoint two Senior Development Officers, one supporting the Faculty of Humanities and the other supporting the Faculty of Science & Engineering. Both are key positions and provide an exciting opportunity for two outstanding individuals to help shape and transform philanthropy at the University.

Your experience in working with high net-worth individuals will be instrumental in driving the future success of fundraising for the two faculties. These are front-line major gift fundraising positions with responsibility for a portfolio of donors and prospective donors from which you will personally solicit gifts at the 5- to 7-figure level. You will play a pivotal role in identifying and securing philanthropic income in support of crucial faculty-related initiatives alongside other University priorities.

You will have a proven record in securing philanthropic gifts from potential major benefactors, expertise in relationship management, a passion for Higher Education, and a high level of motivation in meeting alumni, parents, and friends to engage their support. Above all, you will be a creative thinker with a strong sense of integrity and a values-driven approach to philanthropic fundraising.

These posts are based in Manchester with a requirement for regular travel across the UK, and where required, internationally. A reduced working week, flexible hours and a portion of home working are all possibilities for outstanding candidates.

This is the perfect time to join the team at the University of Manchester and an opportunity for two proven fundraisers to play an integral role in one of the most successful fundraising teams in the UK, whilst taking the next step in your fundraising career and gaining exposure to sector ‘best practice’. These posts will suit ambitious, talented and dynamic fundraisers looking to gain outstanding experience within Higher Education to further their career.
