The Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) seeks to appoint an outstanding individual as its new Development Director. The post-holder will have the opportunity to transform the Trust’s development, pushing the boundaries of fundraising and embedding an inspiring vision for philanthropy across the Charity.

The JST has a unique mission to give people of mixed abilities and circumstances the freedom to explore their ability, potential and place in the world through inclusive adventures at sea. The Trust delivers its mission with two purpose-built tall ships called Lord Nelson and Tenacious. They are uniquely designed to be sailed by mixed ability crews, including people with a wide variety of physical impairments, intellectual disabilities and health conditions. 

For 40 years the JST has been a pioneering organisation that provides transformative, life-affirming adventures to people who face significant challenges in life. It strives to break down barriers between different communities, building respect, empathy and understanding across social divides. Its vision is of an inclusive world where all can contribute and feel valued.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the Development Director will be responsible for cultivating a personal portfolio of high-net-worth donors, securing significant philanthropic gifts in support of the JST’s mission. S/he will also lead, inspire and grow a high-performing Development Team, managing six direct reports. The successful candidate will join a committed Senior Leadership Team and will have a high level of influence over the Trust’s development strategy, working closely with the Board of Trustees and other key senior stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be an entrepreneurial self-starter, who is comfortable taking on a strategic leadership role whilst also being hands-on and self-sufficient. You will need to be confident, courageous and resilient, seeing routine challenges as a catalyst for fresh thinking and innovation. You will possess outstanding communication and influencing skills, and will have the presence, gravitas and intellect to operate effectively at all levels.
