Description
- Develop and execute PR plans to maximise national media coverage for core activities and research and policy agenda through placing of stories, distribution of press releases, arranging interviews and drafting of features with journalists
- Working with policy, campaigns and research teams to ensure research and data is presented to their members and the media in a compelling and accessible format
- Serving as a point of contact for all media enquiries and ensuring a prompt and effective media relations response to relevant news
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key trade, national and business journalists to facilitate strong coverage (print, online and broadcast)
- Creation and delivery of integrated communications campaigns, working alongside the broader Communications team to align messaging
- Creating and leading briefings for spokespeople ahead of media interviews and helping them prepare
- Copywriting for a variety of documents including briefing documents, press releases and reports
- Contribute to creative brainstorms and the development of media tactics to support the organisation's strategy as required
- Manage organisation's external PR agency to drive proactive PR campaigns
- Using and monitoring social media channels
- Responsibility for being an out of hours press office contact
Profile
Essential
- Demonstrable experience working in a busy press office environment and working with national media
- Confident communicator with excellent writing and interpersonal skills with proven experience of producing high quality communications for media
- Excellent journalistic skills - proactively identifying, developing and pitching stories and features to secure and widespread media coverage
- Creative approach with a proactive attitude to finding and telling compelling stories
- Comfortable with analysing data to draw out communications messages and news stories
- Ability to translate complex technical language into plain English to ensure that public understanding of the organisation's work is maximised
- Strong networking and relationship building skills with ability to engage with journalists and internal and external stakeholders of all levels
- Excellent organisational and planning skills and ability to work in a high pressure environment
- Self-motivated and ability to use initiative, but also a strong team player
- A willingness to travel within the UK
Desirable
- Experience of working in a policy environment or for a membership organisation
Job Offer
- Salary of £35,000 - £38,000 depending on level of experience
