Job Role: Senior Buddy / Senior Support Worker
Hours: Full time (37.5 hours) working across a rolling shift pattern including weekends and sleep-in nights
Salary: £18,500.00 per annum​
Location: Surrey area

This charity is a vibrant organisation that provides various opportunities and support services for young people learning disabilities to access social activities and lead independent, fulfilling lives.

Their Buddy and Supported Living Service, which provides personalised support to our young people, within their own home environment (which is generally shared accommodation that is run by the charity) and also out in the community as they develop and maintain life skills to enable them to be as independent as possible.

What does a Senior Buddy typically do?

As a Senior Buddy to our client's young people, you would provide personalised support including:

  • Developing an understanding of the young person’s personal needs and building a rapport with them
  • Supporting the young person to take part in everyday activities or physical tasks around the home such as such as cooking, grocery shopping or cleaning
  • Support the young person to access their local community, learning and social activities, travel training and money handling
  • Providing personal care to some of our young people including assisting them with washing, feeding or dressing as detailed on their support assessment

Have an overview of day to day operations of Supported Living house they will be responsible for, including

  • Keeping paperwork up to date
  • Carrying out monitoring tasks as required
  • Assisting with preparing for and liaison around internal audits and CQC inspections
  • Supporting audits and inspections and action plans as required

What type of person makes a great Senior Buddy?

A great Senior Buddy is someone who is passionate about supporting and encouraging people with learning disabilities to make positive choices. The Senior Buddies should also be outgoing and positive with excellent communication skills and a caring, patient nature able to be encouraging and inspiring to young people and staff they work with. They are looking for candidates with experience who want to take an increased proactive and professional role in assisting people with a learning disability to achieve the life they choose.

Our client will consider applications from anyone who demonstrates a genuine desire to access the training available and gain experience working within a charitable organisation and to work with young people with a learning disability. Although experience of working within a similar environment would be advantageous it isn’t essential as full training will be provided.

  • There will be local travel involved in the role and we therefore encourage applications from individuals who have a driving licence and access to a vehicle.
