Position: Programmes Officer
Location: London
Job type: Full Time, Permanent
Hours: Flexible working, with core hours of 10am to 4pm
Salary: £28,300 per annum

About the role:
This is a dynamic and varied role, offering an opportunity to work across a number of donors, giving direct technical input into innovative projects. Our client's HQ in Kenya identifies need in the African countries that they work in and develop appropriate solutions. The UK programme team provide technical support and identify and source funding, under the guidance of the Programme Manager. The primary role of the Programme Officer will include supporting the design of new projects, proposal writing, financial management across your projects, monitoring and evaluation of projects and relationship management with donors.
Based in their London office, you will work closely with the Programmes Team consisting of the Programme Manager, Programme Officers and a Programmes Assistant. You will work with their Fundraising and Finance teams and will develop good working relationships with teams in their Country Offices.
About you:
- Proven experience of writing, editing and securing high quality, successful proposals
- Proven ability to develop, manage and monitor budgets and develop others’ financial management abilities
- Demonstrable experience of using an evidence-based approach to proposal creation, of creating and managing Monitoring and Evaluation processes, and of disseminating learning from projects
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of good grant management practices including financial and narrative reporting, project delivery, good governance, fund transfers, project life cycle experience, including programme development / support
- Demonstrable experience working with a health NGO / institution, with overseas experience, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa
- Demonstrable understanding of health issues in the international development context
- Knowledge of current UK donor trends in health and experience working with key UK donors, including DFID and Comic Relief
- Good IT skills in Microsoft Office particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Willingness to travel: This role will require at least four trips per year to countries in Africa. Willing / able to travel for at least 6-8 weeks a year
Desirable:
- A Masters or equivalent in a subject relevant to international development and health
- Experience of commercial contract management
- Experience of leading / participating in consortia including NGO, commercial and statutory partners
