Mediator / Case Worker (Young People)
Our client is a charitable organisation that provides safe, emergency, temporary accommodation for homeless young people between the ages of 16 and 25 in the homes of trained volunteer hosts.
Position: Mediator
Location: Kidderminster, Worcestershire
Hours: 21 hour per week, days to be agreed / confirmed
Job type: Part Time, Permanent
Salary: £22,000 to £24,000 per annum pro rata (unqualified) or £24,000 to £26,000 per annum, pro rata (qualified)
Benefits: 25 days (pro rata) with an increment of 1 day for each complete year of service up to a maximum of 5 years. Bank and public holidays are in addition to this (pro rata to hours worked). Auto-enrolment into our Pension Scheme after 3 months’ service.
About the role:
The Mediator will be responsible for the delivery of effective mediation sessions to young people aged 11+ and their families.
Responsibilities:
- Working predominantly in secondary schools, you will be responsible for managing referrals and delivering mediation sessions
- Represent and promote the service through talks, events and other forms of publicity
- Supporting their planned mediation drop-in sessions for young people aged 11-18 years
- Supporting students with a wide range of issues, using a resource toolkit to foster more effective communication (one to one, pair or group work)
- Manage a small caseload of mediation cases, planning and undertaking one to one and joint mediation sessions with young people and their parent / carer
- When necessary support admin officer to arrange bookings for our mediation service, call parent / carer and young person to arrange session dates; check mediator diaries to allocate trained mediator’s for each session
- Work in partnership with voluntary and statutory services to promote the mediation service across North and South Worcestershire, including schools and colleges
- Attend regional mediation network meetings 3 times a year as well as regional, national events and conferences as required
About you:
- 5 GCSE (or equivalent) passes at grade 4 / grade C or higher, including English Language
- Level 4 qualifications in mediation or committed to achieving within first 3 months
- Relevant mediation experience with a proven track record desirable
- Relevant and recent experience of work with disadvantaged young people
- Experience of working collaboratively with others to deliver results
- Good verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail for high levels of accuracy
- Computer literacy, including skills in using the Microsoft Office Outlook, Word and Excel
- Knowledge and understanding of the key principles of mediation and how this relates to issues of conflict within families
- Full UK driving licence and access to a car
- Prepared to work flexibly, including additional hours, in response to the needs of the organisation
- The post holder will be required to attend evening meetings as and when required
A fully enhanced DBS certificate with barred lists check will be required for the successful post holder.
