Job Details

Are you passionate about dogs and cats? Our people and animals make Battersea a great place to work. Your expertise will help increase our impact for dogs and cats everywhere.

We are looking for a Senior Philanthropy & Trusts Manager to contribute to the development of the Philanthropy & Trust strategy and budgets and lead the team to deliver them. This will include growing the prospect and donor pools for both Trust and Major Donors and ensuring the team’s donor development plans reflect best practice in cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. The postholder will lead on a small number of high-level donor relationships, including being a key point of contact for Battersea’s Development Board and Giving Circle.

The post will work closely with colleagues across the organisation, but in particular with the Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships and the Senior Corporate and Special Events Manager to collaborate on joint projects and ensure contacts are shared to maximise all opportunities.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop an already successful team and make a real difference to the cause of animal welfare.

About us

Battersea is here for every dog and cat and has been since 1860. We are a leading animal welfare charity and over the last 150 years we’ve grown from one home in London to three rescuing and rehoming centres across the South East. With c500 staff and 1000 volunteers, we have cared for over three million vulnerable animals We also campaign tirelessly to make things better for dogs and cats; sharing our expertise and educating the public and policymakers about responsible pet ownership. Join us and make a difference for every dog and cat.

Our Fundraising Team

Battersea’s multiple award-winning Fundraising department has grown rapidly in recent years. Working with colleagues across the organisation, we provide members of the public and organisations with opportunities to engage with Battersea and to support our work. Through continued investment, net fundraising income has risen from just £100,000 in 2010 to £13m in 2018, and we aim to reach a net income of £18m by 2020 to make sure Battersea can be here for every cat and dog now and in the future.

This exciting, dynamic role sits within the Philanthropy and Partnerships team which works to engage philanthropists and partners to support Battersea’s current and future work; helping them to understand the dramatic difference their donations can make to the work of our charity. The team has been growing and in 2019 will raise over £3.7m (£600k corporate, £1m Special Events, £1.1m Major Donors and £1m Trusts), to enable Battersea to deliver our ambitious strategy.

Philanthropy and Trusts Team

Within Philanthropy and Partnerships sits the Philanthropy and Trusts team. We build and nurture special relationships with incredible high net worth individuals and charitable trusts who have the potential to give five-, six-, and seven-figure gifts to support the care of our animals. The Philanthropy programme has a donor pool of c100 with a further pool of clarified prospects. We are fortunate to benefit from a large partnership with the People’s Postcode Lottery (£600k+ pa); a number of six figure donors (and have secured seven figure gifts in the past) but are looking to grow both our donor and prospect pool, and grow our number of six and seven figure gifts.

What we can offer you

Our dedicated people mean that we can be here for every dog and cat. Whether you are sharing an office with our dogs or directly caring for our cats, our animals show their appreciation every day. There is no better reward than seeing the difference you make to the lives of our dogs and cats first-hand; although we also provide a wide range of employee benefits, including:

Company

Established in 1860,  is a charity that aims never to turn away a dog or cat in need of our help.  We reunite lost dogs and cats with their owners; when we can’t do this, we care for them until new homes can be found for them; and we educate the public about responsible pet ownership. Last year we cared for over 7,000 dogs and cats. In addition to the site in South West London, the Home also has two other centres based at Old Windsor, Berkshire and Brands Hatch, Kent.
