The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) is a registered educational charity and membership association.  Our mission is to educate the public in the art of dancing in all its forms: to promote knowledge of dance; provide up-to-date techniques for members and maintain and improve teaching standards.

With approximately 7000 members in over 65 countries worldwide, ISTD conducts over 150,000 examinations each year. We have just been listed by Ofqual as one of the top 20 largest awarding organisations in England and are in the top five for delivery of performing arts examinations.

Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing

Director of Membership and Communications

£55,000 - £65,000 per annum

ISTD aspires to be a world leader in dance education, setting the bench mark for best practice through our extensive syllabi and teacher training.  We are committed to becoming a dynamic, future-focused organisation that promotes the social, cultural, physical and educational benefits of dance for all.

The Director of Membership and Communications is a newly created position that will play a vital role in shaping the ISTD of the future. Working in close collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer and senior colleagues, this role will lead the drive to deliver outstanding membership services, brand development and communications worldwide.

In this role you will ensure a strong sense of community amongst current and future members and will actively pursue opportunities for increasing our profile alongside new membership and commercial growth, in line with ISTD’s mission and strategic business plan.

We are looking for an experienced, engaging and credible leader with extensive experience in the development, delivery and maintenance of high quality member services, ideally within the arts, education or charity sectors. Alongside membership experience, you will also bring strong brand and communications skills with experience of identifying new brand related income generation opportunities, such as merchandising. You will demonstrate excellent business acumen alongside strategic and innovative thinking and an ability to build effective relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

This is an exceptional opportunity to play a pivotal leadership role in an organisation with a proud history and a brand that stands for the pursuit of excellence in the dance world.
