Job Title:  Property Manager/ Deputy Chief Officer

Hours:  Part Time /Permanent – 20 hours per week

Salary:  FTE £48k per annum

Location:  Tiverton, Devon

We are working in partnership with Tiverton Almshouse Trust which is an established historic charity whose object is to provide housing for local people in need and over 60 years old.  In addition to eighty-three almshouses, the Trust owns commercial and residential property within the town and is looking to expand further.  We are looking for two key members of staff to take the charity to the next chapter of its 555-year history, a Chief Officer and a Property Manager/Deputy Chief Officer who will also have responsibility for property management.

The role of Property Manager is to deputise for the Chief Officer and to take responsibility for managing the property assets of the Trust both almshouses and commercial investment property.  You will report to the Chief Officer and have line management responsibility for the Estates Administrator and Handyman/Gardener.  The postholder is expected to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation as well as landlord legal obligations.  Maintaining properties to a high standard, ensuring conditions surveys are up to date, preparing and budgeting for programmed works, insurance and risk assessment are all part of the role.  Working closely with relevant professionals and advisors is central to discharging these duties.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the following:

  • Experience at a senior level as a building surveyor or property manager preferably within the charity sector
  • Ability to manage day to day projects, preferably with experience of historic buildings
  • Ability to form a programme of works and preparation of budgets
  • Experience in landlord and tenant managements
  • In depth knowledge of HSE requirements
  • Experience in carrying out annual risk assessments
  • Knowledge of the alms-house movement is desirable but not essential

The ideal candidate will be flexible and have the ability to positively represent the organisation.  Tiverton Almshouse Trust is one of the larger almshouses in the country but the incoming Property Manager will need to be comfortable with the regular daily tasks, as well as the one-off projects such as refurbishments and possible redevelopment.

As a guide, the ideal working pattern for this role will be 4 hours per day, Monday to Friday.

If you feel you have the skills and experience to be successful in this role then please submit your CV and supporting statement to Jenny Warner, Managing Director, info@charismarecruitment.co.uk quoting our reference JO1653.

Closing date for applications: 6 May 2019

Interview date: 23/24 May 2019

Some feedback from a candidate we have successfully placed:

“Now I have been in my new post for a week, I feel I must write to you to commend you on both the recruitment process I have just undergone and the personal support I have received. I could not have expected a better experience of a recruitment process - and even had I not been appointed I would have written in the same vein. I can understand why Charisma was recommended to me by a friend and I will certainly do the same in the future.”
