Overview of the role

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to lead an organisation which is helping to shape services in a highly energised and developing setting. You will have the chance to work with a highly committed team in China and around the world to deliver a vision which will change and impact the care of suffering children and their families for the future.

We are looking for a fluent bi-lingual (Mandarin/English) dynamic and creative leader, with the drive to lead and further develop our dedicated team. Working primarily in China, you will have an entrepreneurial approach and significant experience of securing income from diverse funding streams.

Values driven, you will be adept at building and nurturing relationships with the vision to inspire and influence across the organisation and externally.

You will collaborate with healthcare leaders and professionals to help shape their ideas into new models of service provision and drive forward the vision of the charity.

The role will encompass identification; development; implementation and promotion of current and future BCH services, programs and partnerships that support children and families in China who are affected by life-limiting conditions or complex medical conditions.

Focused on China, this role requires high-level consultation with the Chinese government and medical authorities, collaboration and relationship building skills, with philanthropic, corporate, government and community stakeholders both within China and internationally.

Initially, you will also be responsible for operational oversight of existing management in the Butterfly Home in Hunan Province, Changsha.

*Upon application we can provide you with a strategy that expands on the objectives and expectations.

The candidate we are seeking will have director level experience, ideally with children’s services in the third sector and must have worked internationally.

Company

Butterfly Children’s Hospices UK is a registered charity which was set up after many years of independent charity work by the co-founders in China. They saw first-hand, the desperate situation of many children and families and determined to help as best they could. And so the Butterfly story began. Today BCH employs staff in China and UK with volunteers in locations around the world, and is dedicated to providing palliative care to very sick babies and children, public and professional education and advocacy for policy change in China.

BCH is heavily dependent on philanthropic donations and has registered charities in Hong Kong, Australia, USA and UK whose purpose is to fundraise in support of the work in mainland China. Since 2010 BCH has worked in co-operation with the Chinese government to provide and advocate for loving care and treatment for children with life-threatening illnesses.

BCH  was set up with one aim in mind - to change the care of life-limited children and their families in China. We have achieved this to a remarkable degree. Our mission now is to further promote excellence in children’s palliative and hospice care in China (and other similar locations) through leadership, local collaboration, advocacy and education.
