Empower Learning Academy Trust is a growing, ambitious and highly-regarded multi-academy Trust with a family of four schools (three secondary, one primary) on the boundary of Essex and Greater London. Our founding school, Hall Mead School, has been a Teaching School and National Support School since 2013, and the Headteacher is also a National Leader of Education.

We come to work to make a difference. Each of us plays our part in delivering our vision of ‘Inspiring Learners, Changing Lives’, and we are determined to provide opportunities for our pupils, staff and leaders to be the best they can be; to create a passion for lifelong learning; and to enable our pupils to become confident and impactful world citizens.

As we consolidate our achievements and plan for sustainable development in the coming years, we have created this exciting new role for an exceptionally able, motivated professional who’s looking for a broader canvas for their talents. Reporting to our CEO, Simon London, you’ll be accountable not only for the smooth, effective and efficient day-to-day operation of the Trust, but also for the organisational and strategic planning which will deliver our exciting vision for growth.

Your remit will cover the full range of operational functions – IT, HR, Estates, Health & Safety, Finance and Legal. You’ll manage an experienced and capable team of specialists, and will be a highly influential and visible leader within the Trust. In addition to providing key advice to the Board, the CEO, Principals, and other senior leaders, you’ll work closely with the CEO on the organisational structure and operating model, and will represent the Trust at a high level.

Candidates will bring an impressive record of senior general management, and it’s likely that you will have spent a period in a public-funded sector. An understanding of the nuances of public funding, regulation and reporting will be a significant advantage; and while housing, charity or local government may also have provided you with the grounding you need, we are explicitly looking for someone who is strongly engaged by our particular focus on changing lives through education. A business or finance qualification would also be an asset.

It’s a genuinely rare chance to work within an already successful environment, with the autonomy, support and resources to shape and develop a best-in-class operations function.
