Board Chair
Broxbourne, Hertfordshire
£8,900 per annum
Initial 3-year term, maximum 9-year term

Our client is an association based in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, owning over 4,600 homes with a further 500 in the pipeline. They are well governed, financially sound and offer good value and services to their residents. They have a V1 rating for financial viability and G1 rating for governance from the Regulator of Social Housing; they are also rated by Moody’s, with a strong A3 rating. They are committed to addressing the acute shortage of affordable homes in their locality, ensuring that they help create cohesive communities through supporting their residents.

They are at an interesting and exciting phase of their development as they are currently reviewing their purpose. Rather than being an average performer at a wide range of things, they want to narrow their focus to become exceptional at a few carefully chosen areas and become a beacon and thought leader for the sector. They are small enough to be agile and flexible and they have a Board that has the appetite to be different and a team that has the potential to deliver this.

They are looking for a motivational leader who understands the importance of change in organisations and can inspire and lead the team to new ways of thinking about what they do and how they do it. They want to be creative and resilient in how they consider solutions to seemingly difficult issues and tenacious in pursuing new opportunities.

Overseeing accountability for both the direction and control of the organisation with the rest of the board and executive directors is key to this role, you will also set the organisation’s vision and values and ensure that obligations to stakeholders are understood and reflected in strategy and policies.

They believe having a diverse Board is vital to their ongoing success and they particularly welcome applications from underrepresented groups.

Governance and non-executive leadership experience is essential, as well as knowledge of the housing sector, equality and diversity and a good understanding of strategic management and planning. Experience of chairing boards and committees is also required.

Our client is confident that their contribution to resolving the housing crisis is tangible and they are determined in their continued commitment to the delivery of more affordable housing and customer-focused services.

Closing date: Monday 15th April, 12 noon.
Initial interviews: Wednesday 1st May 2019.
Final interviews: Tuesday 14th May 2019.
