Overview of the Role:
This is an important post in a long-established education charity inspiring young people in regards to STEM education and careers. At a time when education budgets are under pressure and funders are struggling to recruit the right talent, with the support of our funders, we help support schools to enhance curriculum learning whilst enabling employers to engage with young people and inform them about the application of STEM skills in the workplace and associated career opportunities.
This is a busy but varied role embracing a wide range of funders that support our range of programmes, events and activities. Our funding is typically sought from an equal mix of Trusts and Foundations, Corporates, and Major Donors who are passionate about STEM.
We have varied portfolio of funders from a long list that has been grown over several years. The post holder will have the opportunity to enhance what’s already in place, continue to build these relationships and inject your own ideas, enthusiasm and creativity into the strategy.
This is an opportunity to shape, drive and own the business development and fundraising strategy for the charity, to maximise income from current and importantly, new funders, whilst nurturing the excellent relationships developed and held with valued individual and long-term funders.
The successful candidate will be motivated, passionate about fundraising and someone who enjoys coming up with innovative new ideas, that will include marketing activity with the support of our Marketing Exec. They will have experience seeking out and managing a range of funder types and enjoy working collaboratively as part of a small team.

- Working with the CEO and key team members, to develop, the annual fundraising target/budget and 3 year strategy.
- To implement and manage the annual fundraising target/budget and 3 year strategy, reflecting best practice in new business prospect identification, cultivation and solicitation and in account management of funder partnerships.
- To define and lead on a new business strategy, including preparation of new prospect pipeline list and delivery of a portfolio of funder prospects, including playing a lead role in pitches and conducting negotiations with corporate funders.
- To lead on the development and writing of bids, propositions, pitches and offerings for new and current partners.
- To build and manage a pipeline of long-term, ideally high-value, and largely STEM focussed partnerships with organisations and individuals that can deliver income and engagement.
- To lead on developing strategy for and implementing, a high-quality range of marketing activities and events to engage with donors and patrons.
- Working with the delivery team, to oversee the effective account management of funders, ensuring net income is maximised, a high level of customer service/stewardship is achieved and media/PR opportunities are delivered.
- To build good relationships and manage high level relationships with key funder contacts.
- To be aware of the changing external environment to pick up on opportunities and keep abreast of current trends, circumstances or topical issues that will enhance or affect fundraising activity or strategy.
- To develop close internal relationships, particularly with project delivery team and manager of volunteers to maximise opportunities for corporate partners.
- To produce evaluation and end of grant reports on the performance of specific partnerships and performance against overall budget and outcomes, to instigate recommendations for continued funder engagement.
- To maintain a clear view of income and expenditure forecast at all times, in line with charity and funder requirements, providing regular reports as and when required, to support delivery, provide insight and inform the board of trustees.
- To liaise with the project management and delivery team, the finance officer and CEO, to monitor the acquisition and recognition of net income budgets and associated expenditure.
- To fully utilise and update our CRM system to manage and track funder details, communications, donations and status.
- To hold a full UK driving licence and be prepared to travel as required.
- As we work with children, this role requires a DBS check.
- Whilst our core hours are 9-5pm and the post holder must be willing and able to work occasional evenings when required, largely in support of our school focussed activities. Time off will be given in lieu within two months of working extra hours.
- Due to the nature of our charity, whilst this role requires a person with initiative who can work independently it is also critical that they are a “team player”.
- Consideration will be given to candidates who are interested in this role on a part time basis, subject to experience and further discussions.
- We offer a flexible working practice and support working from home, combined with visits to the office.
