Purpose of the role

Working closely with the Chairman, Board of Trustees and Founder the new CEO will implement First Steps ED vision to be the East Midlands Eating Disorder charity and provider of choice for the communities in which we serve, their families and our stakeholders.

With excellent influencing skills, the successful candidate will need to motivate, encourage and bring energy to the delivery of our strategic objectives and goals with a real can-do attitude and an aptitude for problem solving. The new CEO will identify and adapt initiatives for working collaboratively with NHS and other priority sectors, seeking out new partnership opportunities.

This person will

  • Lead and inspire FSED staff, volunteers and partners to deliver our vision for transforming eating disorders care and peer support, and our objective of a volunteer with lived experience to be available to support any current service user.
  • Represent FSED externally to a diverse range of people across sectors including in the NHS, education, voluntary and private sector, and funders.
  • Ensure FSED continues to develop into a high performing, sustainable charitable organisation and has a governance structure that remains fit for purpose.
  • Further the work of FSED staff, volunteers and partners ensuring that our community, their families and stakeholders regard FSED as the provider of choice.

This job description aims to illustrate the range and nature of responsibilities held by the post holder. The list of duties and responsibilities is not exhaustive, and the post holder is expected to be flexible in their approach. The duties associated with the post will inevitably vary and develop and therefore the role will be reviewed on a regular basis and changes made in consultation with the post-holder.

Our compassionate team is supported by a strong board of Trustees and extended network of over 80 volunteers and 12 FTE staff who have helped to build up our exceptional, high-quality reputation over the past 15 years. 

We are trailblazers in innovative service redesign, continuously benchmarking ourselves against the best eating disorders service models world-wide to ensure that the people who approach us for help, are treated with dignity and receive empathetic and evidence-based care, support and hope that the real possibility of recovery is achievable.

FSED is currently working towards becoming a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and looking for a new CEO to sustain our position as the 2nd largest Eating Disorder charity in the UK,  working directly with our team to achieve our continued expansion as the East Midlands Eating Disorder charity, and work alongside the board of Trustees on our next 5 year business plan, FSED 2025.
