About the role:

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and creative person to join our client's news and media team.

Being part of them is to be at the heart of a dedicated, forward-thinking and passionate collection of people. You will find opportunities to work with their colleagues across communications, publishing, membership, sales, marketing, technology and finance, community outreach, and many others, in locations including Cambridge, London, Beijing, Washington and Bangalore.

As an organisation, they want their news and media offering to raise the voice of the chemical sciences, in the UK and around the world. Everything they do supports a global scientific community and the groups they work with are exceptionally diverse – from teachers, scientists and academics, librarians and corporates to politicians and the public.

This role will be based in either their Cambridge or London offices (spending at least one day per week in their other office), which provides an opportunity for a talented individual looking to build their career in communications. You will bring creativity, ideas and enthusiasm to hugely varied projects across their communications channels and you will need to be able to demonstrate your potential to make a positive contribution to the team.

Responsibilities:

- Play a key role in the news and media team, helping to shape and deliver our client’s news and media content.
- Produce news about the organisation and their community, for publication on their website and in their magazine Voice, which is distributed to over 50,000 members worldwide.
- Contribute to editorial planning and coordination of news.
- Secure national and international third-party media coverage, to help achieve the organisation’s strategic objectives through promoting key messages.
- Play an active role in managing the organisation’s reputation, including through monitoring coverage, spotting risks, and following crisis communications procedures.
- Represent the wider communications team to colleagues, providing support and advice on how to communicate effectively and the different ways in which the team can help them.

About you:

- Experience of collaborating with others to produce content, including supporting non-specialist colleagues and commissioning and editing work from external contributors (e.g. freelancers).
- Experience of working with and incorporating rich, digital content.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, critical judgement, resilience, and composure under pressure.
- A desire to promote and enable the positive impact of chemistry, and science generally, on social, political, and economic issues.
- Experience in an editorial and / or production role in a digital-first news outlet, including sourcing and producing stories and theming and scheduling content.
- Knowledge and experience of UK and international print and broadcast media.
- Experience of interacting with senior figures in the media.
- Degree or equivalent experience. A background, knowledge, or qualifications in science and / or chemistry may be an advantage, but is not required.
- Qualifications in news, media, journalism or communications (e.g. Masters or Bachelor’s degree, CIPR or PRCA qualification etc.), or equivalent experience demonstrating a knowledge of news and media as a discipline.

Our client will reward your contribution with excellent benefits.
