Job Details

The MSC’s vision is for the world’s oceans to be teeming with life, and seafood supplies safeguarded for this and future generations. Through our world-leading certification and ecolabeling programme we recognise and reward sustainable fisheries. Our work with leading seafood brands, retailers, NGOs, scientists and other experts creates market incentives and helps to increase the sustainability of fishing around the world. Over 300 fisheries, representing 14% of the world’s wild caught seafood, are now engaged in the MSC programme. MSC certified and labelled seafood products are available in over 100 countries.

The shift to sustainable fishing is a globally significant challenge and transformation hinges on leadership and collaboration among a diverse set of interest groups. As a multi-stakeholder organisation, the MSC relies on support and involvement by a very wide range of stakeholders, from the fishing industry to environmental NGOs, scientific community to commercial partners, governments and consumers. Effective multi-stakeholder engagement, transparency and continuous improvement are core principles for the MSC, and at the heart of our effort to ensure we maintain a robust, mission-driven programme.

Reporting to the Program Development Director, this new and challenging role will responsible for leading and managing MSC’s global NGO engagement and public affairs strategies to ensure effective dialogue and deeper engagement in the MSC program. This is an exciting opportunity to shape how the MSC engages with key NGO stakeholders, as well as with governments and other statutory bodies, identifying the most effective ways to build understanding of our programme and to enhance the MSC’s understanding of NGO and governments’ priorities, issues and areas of mutual interest.

The post holder will contribute to cross-organisational strategic leadership and representation of the organisation at senior levels across key NGO (and some statutory) audiences internationally. Working with the Head of Stakeholder Engagement, they will liaise with NGO members of MSC’s Stakeholder Advisory Council and provide an NGO and government perspective to MSC’s other governance bodies as required.

The MSC is looking for a highly motivated and dynamic individual who will bring significant proven and relevant experience at a senior level in multi stakeholder relations and facilitation in an international organisation with diverse issues, interests and audiences. Relevant experience and understanding of international environmental conservation, and a willingness and ability to grasp and communicate MSC’s fisheries standard and requirements is essential. You must also be able to demonstrate your empathy and interest in the MSC’s mission and objectives.
