Head of Communications – The Donkey Sanctuary
Salary: circa £51,000
Location: Devon

The Donkey Sanctuary is one of the UK’s largest international animal welfare charities; currently supporting projects in over 35 countries worldwide. We are working for a world where donkeys and mules live free from suffering, and their contribution to humanity is fully valued. 

We are achieving this by transforming the quality of life for donkeys, mules and people worldwide through greater understanding, collaboration and support, and by promoting lasting, mutually life-enhancing relationships.

We are now seeking to recruit a Head of Communications to ensure that Donkey Sanctuary communications are delivered effectively and resonate with target audience groups such as supporters, external influencers and stakeholders.
 

Key responsibilities include:
 Manage the Communications Team motivating and nurturing team spirit to enable development and implementation of communications and campaigns strategies
 Create and deliver compelling communications dissemination strategy
 Engage key external influencers such as journalists, bloggers, commentators and celebrity ambassadors to promote the profile and credibility
 Ensure that The Donkey Sanctuary harnesses the power of new media and digital channels, delivering imaginative communications products
 

Essential criteria include:
 Experience of working in media relations and communications including strategic media relations, event PR, feature placement and issues-based campaigns
 Ability to identify and develop creative and engaging public communications opportunities
 Ability to build excellent working relationships internally and externally with good influencing and diplomacy skills
 Experience of offering counsel and media advice to a wide range of staff including senior management and regional and in-country colleagues
