South Lakes Citizens Advice is recruiting a Welfare Benefits Caseworker funded by Macmillan Cancer Support.

Location: The post holder will be based at either our Kendal and/or Ulverston offices. The post holder will provide the service through a variety of channels and locations.

Salary: £21,700 - £23,600, Pro rata Actual £10,850 - £11,800. Depending on experience plus 3% pension contribution.

Hours: 18.5 hours per week.

Holidays: 35 days per annum pro rata (including Bank Holidays.)

We deliver the aims and principles of Citizens Advice service by offering a comprehensive and accessible service and by working actively for change in the policies and practices that impact on the lives of our clients.

We are currently recruiting for a Welfare Benefits Caseworker to join our Macmillan welfare benefits team. We have an established partnership with Macmillan and this post is funded by Macmillan. The role involves delivering welfare benefits advice up to specialist level to people with Cancer and those living and affected by Cancer. The post holder will provide this service at either of our offices, the person’s home, within the hospital setting and/or other venues across the district.

Role Purpose:

To provide a quality welfare benefits advice service to those with Cancer and those living and affected by Cancer through a variety of channels and locations. The post involves some home visits and delivering sessions in the local hospital.

We are looking to recruit someone with the following qualities:

  • Excellent knowledge and recent experience of welfare benefits advice including forthcoming changes, and related areas.
  • An understanding of the issues in advising people affected by long term health issues
  • Ability to undertake detailed casework  and manage a caseload
  • Ability to research, analyse and interpret complex information
  • Ability to plan, prioritise own work load and meet deadlines
  • Excellent  communications skills
  • Good I.T. skills
  • Positive approach to team work.
