Ealing Council is seeking to recruit an exceptional candidate to build on the work already achieved to deliver the Government’s Counter Extremism Strategy. This strategy centres on countering all forms of extremist ideologies which undermine values such as democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and respect for different faiths and beliefs. This person will be working across and contributing to a number of agendas including Hate Crime, Harmful Illegal Cultural Practices (such as FGM and so called honour based violence) and Community Cohesion. The Counter Extremism Strategy is distinct and complementary to the Prevent strategy as it seeks to challenge the broad symptoms of extremism which are not limited to terrorism and radicalisation.

We are looking for a charismatic determined and confident person who has the ability and skills to engage hard to reach groups, promote community cohesion and challenge extremist ideologies. You will need to develop strong and effective partnerships particularly with grass roots community groups and demonstrate the ability to promote and empower communities and organisations/institutions to challenge all forms of extremism that undermine our fundamental values in modern day Britain. You will be required to have knowledge and experience of supporting organisations to build their capacity to deliver projects and work that support the aims of the Counter Extremism Strategy.

Candidates will therefore be expected to have good knowledge of the Government’s Counter Extremism Strategy 2015.

Ealing is a diverse borough and the post holder will be expected to maintain and strengthen our links across our communities. In particular we are keen to build on the work already achieved with Ealing’s Eastern European communities.

Therefore, you will need to demonstrate experience of working with diverse communities including hard to reach groups, promoting community cohesion and empowering communities to support themselves. You will also need to be able to advise and support organisations on accessing funds/support to enable them to consolidate and amplify their work in relation to countering extremism.

You should be prepared to work occasional evenings and weekends and travel for business purposes as well as undergo enhanced security checks.

Closing date Monday 4th March 2019
