This charity is a user led organisation managed and controlled by disabled people.

They are looking for someone who is highly motivated, with a thorough understanding of the social model of disability and high expectations of people with learning disabilities. You will need excellent problem solving and negotiation skills.

Role: Supported Employment Coordinator
Location: London SW6
Salaries: £25,000 - £26,500
Contract: Fixed Term until 31st August 2019 (rolling contract continuing dependent on funding)
Job level:  Experienced (non-manager)
Hours: Full time

The role

To provide coaching, support and guidance to young people with learning disabilities. You will support interns to learn their placement tasks and provide the necessary coaching, training and encouragement to succeed. You will work closely with mentors on the host site to ensure they are supported and can confidently manage and train their intern. You will facilitate their progression into paid employment by supporting interns to make direct contact with employers and by carrying out your own employer engagement.

Background to the role

The charity are recruiting for a Supported Employment Coordinator for their well established Internship partnership with West London College at:

  • Hammersmith & Fulham Council & L’Oreal head office. This is a partnership project between our client, West London College, Hammersmith & Fulham Council & L’Oreal head office

The placements run for an academic year and conclude in June/July 2019. Our client aim to progress all of their clients into paid work – either within the host employer or with external employers. The Supported Employment Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the clients on placements as well as finding paid work opportunities.

Your profile

You are passionate about supporting people with learning disabilities and autism to become independent. You have a good working knowledge of the social model of disability. Ideally you have some experience in supported employment or a similar role. You have an outgoing, positive, empathetic, assertive personality and a clear and straightforward communication style.
