Julian House is a growing organisation providing life-changing services to people facing acute challenges in their lives.
We are a charity and registered provider with the Homes and Communities Agency. We were originally established in 1987 after a homeless man died on the streets of Bath. Spurred by this tragic incident, our founders decided that something needed to be done to help the homeless.
It’s this commitment to helping the most marginalised in society, that makes Julian House the charity that it is today. Whether it be homelessness, mental health problems, substance abuse or a combination of them all, our passionate team provide support around the clock to those most in need.
What’s the opportunity?
We start 2019 in transition.
Under our outgoing Chief Executive, the last seven years have been typified by significant growth. At 180 staff and a £5m budget we have developed into a significant regional charity. Projects and services stretch beyond our immediate vicinity into places like Basingstoke, Dorset and Devon.
Our good work is getting noticed.
Against this positive backdrop, you’re going to provide strong management and leadership to an established Management Team and Board of Trustees.
We’ve already identified a number of high priority areas. So, in the first 6-12 months you’re likely to be spending your time in a couple of focus areas:
Building trust and credibility with a very capable, talented and experienced SMT;
- Developing a credible strategic plan and winning the support of the SMT and Board;
- Identifying opportunities to build a supportive culture which is felt right throughout the organisation;
- Giving strategic support to a newly formed finance function, so they can move towards a high-performing team;
- Modernising and professionalising the organisation further through the identification and introduction of new technology.
Who are you?
You’re already in a senior management role. You’ve had the satisfaction of setting a strategy, developing business plans and watching your vision turn into a reality.
Your people management skills are a real strength. This is where you do some of your best work. You crave a role where you can channel and direct the enthusiasm and energy of a very strong, capable and experienced team.
You enjoy building high-level external relationships. It might be with commissioners, major funders or something similar. You’ve known how to balance the level of tact and discipline needed to build and crucially maintain positive and open conversations.
You’ve got a track record of delivering income growth - whether it be grants, sales, fundraising or contracts. One thing is for sure. You’ve got a flair for creating steady income streams.
Finally, you’re motivated by a cause which has equality and social justice at its core. Ours is one that strikes a real chord with you.
