Our Co-Existence work focuses on building cohesive societies that are resilient to extremism, by driving participation and belonging together with confronting the ideology behind the violence, to serve to defend against extremist ideas that seek to cause and exploit divisions. 

To support this work, we are currently searching for an experienced Project Manager for maternity cover for a critical role within our Design, Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning team. The role is responsible for supporting the Programmes team to identify new business development opportunities and to design and develop effective projects and programmes that adhere to international development standards. This includes management of the implementation of special projects within the overall portfolio which are not part of larger programmes, in particular supporting the Governance and Policy Advisor to develop and deliver a Global Commitment on Education planned for a September launch. The role will have responsibility for managing project budgets. The role also supports the team in planning grant proposals (together with the fundraising team) and developing and implementing project management principles. The role will be managed by the Director of Programmes, Co-Existence. 



• As a skilled project manager, deliver project activities effectively according to business plan, timelines and budget. 
• Effectively support teams, manage contractors and implementing partners (often at a distance). 
• Represent the projects/programmes and the Institute effectively at working levels at external events and meetings.


• Collaborate with the programmes and fundraising team to contribute towards identifying and pursuing relevant business development opportunities. 
• Ensure funds are applied according to financial management and control policies, and within approved budgets to deliver on agreed priorities within agreed timeframes.  


• Ensure effective management of project design and implementation activities in accordance with agreed timelines and budget. 
• Ensure financial systems and processes are adhered to and regularly monitor project expenditure against budget to mitigate underspends/ overspends and to ensure Value for Money. 
• Work closely with fundraising colleagues in the design, identification and development of new partnership and funding opportunities, and to ensure quality and timely reporting to donors. 
• Contribute to the implementation of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) activities, including data collection and analysis, in line with the CE pillar’s strategy and the project’s MEL plan. 
• Work closely with the Governance and Policy Advisor to deliver the Global Commitment project including the global launch in September.
• Carry out other duties as may be required.


• Ensure compliance with all relevant corporate policies, project systems and processes, including those related to safeguarding, security and legal matters.
• Manage the production of the project’s risk matrix and its annual review. Work with colleagues across the institute and externally, where applicable, to mitigate these risks.
• Identify and manage external relationships and partnerships that advance the Institute’s work.


• Support development and dissemination of best practice guidelines related to project cycle management.
• Collaborate with colleagues to adhere to action research principles, ensuring project design is informed by research and that project evaluation informs research, and that lessons are shared with the wider stakeholder community to inform best practice and influence policy change.
• Keep abreast of changes in the sector to ensure the ongoing relevance of our work and to explore potential new projects, innovations and partnerships.

What We Look For in Our People:


Experience in implementing multiple, ideally international development, using project cycle management. Relevant experience in Project Management at international level. Accreditation in project management will be considered useful. Experienced in financial management, including budgeting, monitoring and reporting, and ensuring compliance with corporate finance policies on procurement and Value for Money. Experienced in managing teams or coordinating processes to deliver effective projects. Experienced in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning systems and processes, including impact assessment and reporting and lessons, and understanding of need for generating robust evidence to influence policy and programming. Experience supporting an advocacy/policy influencing/campaign initiative Understanding of diverse funding sources and experienced in contributing to successful project development and proposal/bid-writing for a range of donors. 

ESSENTIALS SKILLS: Strong collaboration skills to work effectively within teams and across areas of expertise to design and implement projects to the highest quality. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to a high standard, and to network with a range of stakeholders in order to manage partnerships and relationships that advance the mission of the Institute and advocate its work. Ability to take initiative and contribute towards innovation, creative problem-solving and making difficult evidence-based decisions.
