We are England’s first civic university and remain entwined with our city, which shares our pioneering, boundless spirit.

With 25 Nobel Prize winners among its current and former staff and students, we have a history of world firsts and brilliant discoveries, from splitting the atom, to the first stored-program computers, to giving the world the brand-new wonder material, ‘graphene’.
