About the Cathedral

Liverpool Cathedral is a world class cathedral which stands as an icon for the city. Britain’s largest cathedral is Sir Giles Gilbert Scott’s masterpiece boasting many record-breaking features including: the world’s highest and widest Gothic arches, the highest and heaviest peal of bells and an organ with 10,268 pipes.

Built by the people, for the people, for the Glory of God, Liverpool Cathedral is a vibrant church with a community life of daily prayer and an award winning visitor attraction (winner of Large Visitor Attraction of the Year 2018 for Liverpool City Region). Our daily rhythm of worship is supported by an excellent choir attracting thousands to important service.

We welcome well over 700,000 visitors a year. As such we play a key role in Liverpool’s growing visitor economy. Our spectacular space plays host to high profile events and delivers a cultural programme to inspire a local, national and international audience.  Our total commitment to partnership working contributes to our economic, spiritual and cultural life, giving all who serve here a thoroughly outward looking perspective.
