Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise internally and draft proactive media releases and statements, opinion and comment pieces and letters to editors
  • Develop strong relationships with key trade, local and national publications and journalists to facilitate strong coverage
  • Log media enquiries, responding or forwarding the responses
  • Media monitoring, horizon scanning and evaluation on a regular basis
  • Ensuring prompt and effective media relations responses
  • Work collaboratively with teams across the organisations and disseminate news coverage internally
  • Provide out-of-hours contact and support for media, as part of a rota
  • Deliver and evaluate content across a range of channels including websites, intranet and social media
  • Proactively create opportunities to promote organisation events and projects
  • Contribute to forward planning for the Communications team and support the Communications team with crisis communications as necessary

Profile

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience working in fast paced press office environment including writing press releases, opinion pieces and articles
  • Experience of forming and implementing media plans and campaigns and creating engaging communications for media contacts
  • Strong networking and relationship building skills with ability to engage with journalists and internal and external stakeholders of all levels
  • Strong knowledge of UK print, broadcast and online national and regional media
  • Confident communicator with excellent writing and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to translate complex issues and language into plain English to ensure that public understanding of the organisation's work is maximised
  • Creative approach with a proactive attitude to finding and telling compelling stories, and uses initiative to identify opportunities for news coverage using different communications channels
  • Able to prioritise and organise workload with minimum supervision using own initiative, sometimes under pressure or dealing with high volumes of work
  • A friendly, approachable and confident manner and a good team player with a willingness to cover work across the Communications team as required

Desirable

  • Previous experience working within a membership body
  • Communications / Public Relations / Media qualification
  • A knowledge and interest in the health sector
