Senior Policy and Advocacy Adviser – Education and Youth
£38,000 - £40,000 per annum
Permanent

Unicef ensures more of the world’s children are vaccinated, educated and protected than any other organisation. We have done more to influence laws and policies to help protect children than anyone else. We get things done. And we’re not going to stop until the world is a safe place for all our children.

Unicef UK’s Advocacy team works to improve UK Government policy and practice on child rights at home and around the world by presenting decision-makers with a compelling case for change based on evidence, thorough policy analysis, government engagement and public campaigning.

We are currently recruiting two Senior Policy Advisers to join the team.  These roles will lead the development of Unicef UK’s policy portfolio and advocacy strategy in one of two policy areas: either child health and nutrition or education and youth.

The position of Senior Policy and Advocacy Adviser - Education and Youth is a new role and, as such, an early task will be to scope and design a new and ambitious policy agenda and programme of research.  You will need to develop robust and compelling policy analysis and public policy asks on education and youth issues, in both the domestic and international contexts. You will provide policy insight and analysis to inform activities across fundraising, communications and advocacy and you will have the opportunity to contribute to the priority outcomes around increasing access to education, quality education and the development of life skills. In addition to focusing on education and youth, for around 20% of your time you will also undertake projects focused on other child rights issues, working closely with the relevant experts, thus enabling you to develop a broader range of expertise. For example, this might involve looking at the violence faced by children at school.

To succeed in this role, you will have in-depth knowledge of issues around education and youth, internationally and in the UK, and experience of developing detailed evidence based policy positions and presenting them in a clear, well-argued and compelling manner.  We will expect you to have strong networks of experts in the field and be able to work with a range of internal and international colleagues, often with competing agendas.  In addition, you should have experience in providing policy expertise as part of a wider advocacy public campaign.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic and expanding team that’s delivering change for children.

Act now and visit www.unicef.org.uk/jobs to apply online.

Closing date: 5pm, Monday 4 February 2019.

Interview date: week commencing 18 February 2019.
