About Our Client

The Drinkaware Trust is a UK-wide alcohol education charity, funded by voluntary and unrestricted donations from UK alcohol producers, retailers and supermarkets. The Trust is governed independently and works in partnership with others to help reduce alcohol-related harm by helping people make better choices about their drinking. The media and communication agenda focuses on consumer engagement – the charity remit does not include a policy or lobbying brief.

Job Description

  • Support the Communications Director in developing a multi-year integrated content and communication strategy for Drinkaware.
  • Create and deliver a creative, rolling, Media and Communications activity calendar.
  • Ensure Media and Communications activity is defined in clear content plans that specify all activity across our communication platforms, including blogs, website, social media and e-bulletins/newsletters.
  • Develop the reputation positively and mitigate reputational risk when necessary, leading on the crisis management process.
  • Manage and maximise the organisations use of social media channels.
  • Ensure the timeliness, quality and accuracy of written materials and communications.
  • Build a strong network of key and influential journalists and media specialist that represent national, regional, consumer, trade, online and social media, in order to positively influence coverage and comment.
  • Engage and manage external agencies and contractors to work.
  • Support the activities of Drinkaware's Public Affairs manager.
  • Analyse and report on the performance against Drinkaware's communications/ content plans.

The Successful Applicant

Education and Experience

  • Demonstrable experience planning and delivering creative media and PR messages and campaigns that have a genuine influence and positive impact on understanding or behaviour.
  • Proficient managing a busy press office and out of hours service with a knack for finding and selling a story.
  • Proven experience identifying issues of reputational risk and leading crisis escalation processes.
  • Successful experience developing content calendars, in collaboration with other teams
  • Strong track record in identifying appropriate media opportunities to promote campaigns and delivering quality communications on-time, to-budget execution.

Skills and aptitude

  • Skilled operator who can spot media opportunities and influence journalists and broadcasters to carry our stories.
  • Has evidence of building effective media contacts and can influence others to optimise our profile in the media.
  • Proven effectiveness as a line manager.
  • Digitally progressive, able to plan communications and content for execution on and offline.
  • Excellent writing skills; able to write professionally for a range of audiences.
  • Able to support senior organisational stakeholders, including the CEO, Chief Medical Advisor and Chair as required.
