Director of Communications
Our client is an international humanitarian organisation dedicated to tackling hunger and poverty with the most vulnerable people in the world’s poorest countries. They work in partnership with the very poorest people in these countries, directly enabling them to improve their lives, as well as using their knowledge and experience to influence decisions made at a local, national and international level that can significantly reduce poverty.
Position: Director of Communications
Location: London, UK
Job type: Full Time, Permanent
Salary: £55,667 to £61,525 per annum

About the role:
As a member of the Senior Management team and in line with their organisational strategic plan the Director of Communications is responsible for raising awareness, building brand and increasing visibility of the client.
- Their brand awareness levels are higher, and their voice is heard, trusted and respected by their target audiences
- Their content on hunger attracts high volumes of new supporters and engages existing supporters
- They have digital channels (website and social media) that reflect their brand and provide an enhanced user experience, in turn engaging new audiences and increasing digital revenue and conversions
About you:
- Educated to degree level
- Significant experience (minimum 5 years) in managing communications work, preferably in an international aid context
- Experience of working with and understanding the media with a track record of effective targeting and delivery of coverage.
- Experience of digital communications with a track record of effective targeting and achievement
- Experience of building and managing a team
- Sound understanding of international development issues
- Broad based knowledge of current thinking and practice in communications including digital
- Excellent written and verbal skills to appeal to a broad range of audiences
- Good interpersonal and negotiating skills
- Readiness to travel if required
Desirable:
- Network of traditional and digital media contacts
- Experience of crisis communications management
- Experience of cross-organisational collaboration to support marketing, fundraising and / or campaigning objectives
