Are you passionate about road safety and interested in using your medical knowledge and experience to improve our standards for driving? Then we want to hear from you.

The DVLA is looking for GMC registered and licensed consultants who have an outstanding record of achievement, personal credibility and senior level experience to join our medical advisory Panel.

The DVLA plays a vital role in making Britain’s roads safe. To ensure that every motorist meets the required medical standards for fitness to drive, we actively work with The Secretary of State for Transport’s Honorary Medical Advisory Panels to set the medical standards and shape policy and guidelines for over 48 million driving licence holders.

The Panels help maintain and improve road safety by providing the Secretary of State for Transport, the Department for Transport and the DVLA with expert advice about a wide range of medical conditions and their impact on driving.

About You
This unique opportunity will provide you with a set of fascinating challenges. These will not only widen your professional development in the field of setting driving standards and shaping policy, but will also see you work with other leading experts in both your own and related fields.

Details of the Panel members we are seeking to appoint are:

Psychiatric Disorders:
• Panel Chair
• General Adult Psychiatrist
• Expert in Learning Disabilities
• Psycho-Pharmacologist
• General Practitioner
• Occupational Therapist
• Clinical Psychologist

Alcohol, Drugs and Substance Misuse:

Diabetes Mellitus

If you are applying for one the Panel member positions we would like you to commit to a minimum of four days of work per year – two days for Panel meetings and two days for meeting preparation.

If you are applying for the Chair position, you would need to commit to a minimum of six days of work per year – two days for Panel meetings, two days for meeting preparation and an additional two days for Chair meetings.

In all of these roles, you’ll need to have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

DVLA also provide an induction programme for these roles which may include one day in Swansea; expenses for this will be reimbursed.
We are looking to recruit into these Panels for an initial term of 5 years. If successful, you will start your membership in the next round of Panel meetings in October 2019.

Closing date: Midnight Sunday 3rd February 2019
