Our client opened the world’s first safe house for women and children fleeing domestic violence in Chiswick, West London in 1971. Since then the charity has grown to become the country’s largest single provider of specialist domestic violence services. On any given day, its national network of services supports over 6,800 women and children. Committed to a world where domestic violence is not tolerated and where women and children can live in safety, the organisation aims to empower women and children rebuild their lives, free from violence and fear.

About the role:

They are looking for a domestic violence practitioner to join their dynamic peripatetic team. An exciting opportunity to enhance your experience in a variety of support roles including working in accommodation based services, independent domestic violence advocate, independent gender violence advocate, independent sexual violence advocate, and community outreach worker.

They will offer an extensive induction programme for the successful candidate including a programme of specialist training and the opportunity to gain a QCF Level 3 Award in Supporting Survivors of Domestic Violence. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to work across a range of our client’s specialist services.

Responsibilities:

You will deliver a high quality professional service to survivors of domestic violence living in their refuges, those who access the outreach service and independent domestic violence advocacy services. You will work from any of their National sites, providing cover for services who need additional staff. You may be required to travel including some Monday – Friday overnight stays during your assignments.

Your role will involve providing invaluable practice and emotional support to men, women and their children advocating on their behalf in areas such as welfare, housing, courts, police and emotional support as well as supporting women to move to safe, permanent accommodation.

About you:

The successful candidates will be passionate about ending gender based violence and have experience of providing emotional and practical support in a paid or unpaid capacity. They will need to work flexibly and have strong organisational skills, good written and verbal communication, and an understanding of the importance of maintaining professional boundaries. The ability to work as part of an on-call rota is also essential.
