The Stefanou Foundation is a charity that aims to act as a catalyst for change, getting to the root of complex challenges and breaking new ground. In particular, the Foundation looks at new ways to support those least able to speak for themselves, specifically, the very young and the very old.

This is a great opportunity for someone who has been a senior major donor fundraiser or high value relationship driven fundraiser who knows what good looks like, and would love the opportunity to step up as a Director of Fundraising and introduce that strategic element to their role.

Early in the Foundation’s work, it became clear that babies born into families affected by Domestic Violence and Abuse (DVA) could face significant challenges in reaching their full potential as children and adults. In addition, those experiencing or perpetrating DVA are likely to have been exposed to significant trauma in their own childhoods. As a result of this recognition, the Foundation has invested its resources in the creation of an intensive therapeutic prototype programme - For Baby’s Sake.

The For Baby’s Sake programme is a whole family approach to achieving better outcomes for infants and young children by tackling the cycle and impact of DVA, whilst simultaneously integrating parenting support. The programme launched in April 2015 in two prototype sites, in London and Hertfordshire, and is subject to external evaluation by King’s College London, who will submit their final report in October 2019.  The Foundation’s aim is to sustain, scale-up and roll-out For Baby’s Sake.

Promising early signs of the impact of For Baby’s Sake have enabled the Foundation to agree a third site in Cambridgeshire, which will launch in Spring 2019, developed through a unique collaborative agreement and innovative funding arrangement which will combine public sector and philanthropic resources.  A fourth site is being negotiated and other authorities have also expressed an interest in bringing For Baby’s Sake to their areas.

This is a crucial and exciting time for the Stefanou Foundation.Having invested over £5m of its own philanthropic resources into the creation, implementation and evaluation of For Baby’s Sake, and its associated work as a catalyst for wider policy and system change, the Foundation now needs to raise income from like-minded philanthropists and major donors for the next stage of our journey.

Purpose of the Post:

This is a pivotal role, newly created, working as a member of the Stefanou Foundation’s Senior Leadership Team to lead the development and implementation of a new strategy to raise income, predominantly from major donors, to support our ambition to change the life chances of babies, children and families across the UK and beyond.

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled fundraiser who is up for the challenge of building the Foundation’s fundraising function from scratch, able to think strategically and work collaboratively to turn plans into concrete action.  The post-holder will be an intuitive networker who is excellent at building relationships and personally soliciting and securing major donations from high net worth individuals.

  • To lead on the preparation, monitoring and review of income generated from all aspects of the fundraising strategy, suggesting and taking action where appropriate.
  • To review and specify the Foundation’s requirements for a CRM system (and lead its procurement and implementation if necessary), to ensure accurate records are maintained and to enable the effective and efficient management and support of donors, supporters and wider stakeholders.
  • To ensure clear and regular communication internally with colleagues and externally with donors and other stakeholders, partners and supporters of the Foundation.
  • To administrate and organise own work to ensure it meets targets, reasonable deadlines and reporting requirements.
