Director of Finance and Resources - Providence Row - Aldgate East, London

Providence Row has been supporting homeless and vulnerably housed people since 1860. The charity works with more than 1600 people a year offering an integrated service of crisis support and advice, recovery, learning and training programmes. Sadly and inexcusably the need is growing significantly and so we are developing our services to support more of the most vulnerable people in our society.

Role Purpose

To lead and hold strategic oversight of the financial management of Providence Row

To contribute to the overall leadership of Providence Row as a member of the leadership team

To lead and manage the Finance and Resources Team with responsibility for the finance function, policy and HR support and facilities management

Key Areas of Responsibility

Ensure robust financial and legal governance

Produce accurate financial reports enabling easy interpretation of the financial health of the charity and well informed strategic decisions by the Leadership team and Trustees.

Produce the charity's annual accounts and ensure compliance with the charity SORP.

Liaise with the charity's auditors and legal advisors to support financial and legal compliance.

Present financial information at the charity's finance sub-committee, Trustees meetings and AGM.

Make strategic contribution as a full member of the corporate leadership team

Produce and regularly review financial forecasting for the charity, to inform the charity's strategy and identify key financial/fundraising issues

Lead the annual budgeting process ensuring all budget holders take active responsibility for planning and costs

Alongside other Leadership Team members, deputise for the CEO, report to the Board and provide leadership for the staff team.

Lead initiatives to improve the charity's systems and infrastructure including staff consultations, project planning and review.

Oversee the charity's property portfolio including strategy, income generation and ensuring a high quality environment for staff and tenants

Ensure development and implementation of the charity's property strategy, balancing social and commercial interests appropriately

Oversee the production and implementation of a long term cyclical maintenance plan for all buildings owned by the charity and linked to the property reserve.

Oversee the charity's financial management systems

Lead a robust financial planning process including budgeting and monitoring of income and expenditure, engaging with the CEO and leadership team, the finance committee and budget holders across the charity.

Ensure there are accurate and transparent systems in place to account for all income and expenditure, and that best value is being derived from resources.

Provide financial information to the CEO and Leadership Team to enable realistic annual fundraising targets to be set and monitored.

Provide high quality line management to the members of the Finance and Resources Team

Provide the members of the Finance and Resources Team with regular supervision and review

Ensure excellent recruitment, personal development and training are in place for the Finance and Resources team including staff and volunteers.

Lead regular Finance and Resources team meetings to ensure achievement of the team's plan, joint working and strong cross organisational communication.

Ensure the charity has excellent HR support

With the Office Manager ensure external HR provider delivers excellent HR service.

Manage the charity's portfolio of policies and procedures ensuring regular audits and updates taking accounts of key legal and regulatory developments.

Ensure financial management policies and procedures are in place and regularly reviewed including investment, valuation and reserves.

Essential knowledge and experience

A relevant professional qualification in accountancy (CIMA, ACA, ACCA, CIPFA)
Experience of providing financial information, annual reports and accounts to a Board of Trustees or equivalent group of volunteers.
Strong knowledge of the charity accounting SORP a
