The vision for Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT) is to advance health and wellbeing, as a local, national and international leader in clinical care, education and research. The Trust has more than 1,000 inpatient beds and makes more than 2 million patient contacts each year. Its work embraces world-class clinical care and research, including Evelina London Children’s Hospital and Guy’s Cancer Centre.

The Trust’s work is supported by Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Charity, which is the charity for the Trust including Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Evelina London Children’s hospitals and an independent place-based foundation. The Charity helps the Trust provide exceptional healthcare, through supporting a world-class environment for patients and staff alike.

The Trust and the Charity have a shared ambition to significantly increase fundraised income in order to achieve maximum benefit for patients and staff. King’s Fundraising & Supporter Development team (F&SD) is responsible for fundraising for its three partners and is funded by them to do so:  King College London, King’s Health Partners and Guy’s and St Thomas’.  This unique partnership, uniting hospital and university fundraising in one team, is the first of its kind in the UK and European philanthropy.  The total size of the team is around 120 FTE with activities spanning Principal Gifts, Major Gift and Mass Fundraising from: individuals, trusts and foundations, the community, corporates and alumni. Key to the success of this ambition is the recruitment of a new Director of Fundraising, Guys’ and St. Thomas’.

The Role

  • Provide strategic leadership, co-ordination and guidance to ensure significant growth in philanthropic income from Principal Gifts, Major Gifts, Trusts & Foundations, Corporate, Mass and Community Giving programmes.
  • Represent fundraising with all key stakeholders in an exemplary, accountable and impactful fashion inspiring confidence and support.
  • Manage a small portfolio of key Principal Gift donors to ensure that they are engaged and supportive.

The Candidate

  • Exceptional leader with the confidence, awareness and emotional intelligence required to manage a team and to act as a role model for others at all levels. Effective mentoring, leadership and development of staff will be match with a strategic, analytical and target-led approach to drive performance.
  • Able to operate flexibly, with initiative and a ‘can-do’ approach, while exemplifying the culture and values of the F&SD team.
  • Excellent communications skills and the ability to form strong, effective and trusted-advisor relationships with multiple stakeholders across a large, complex organisation.
