CQC is an independent regulator of health and social care in England. We make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care and we encourage care services to improve. We monitor, inspect and regulate services to ensure they meet fundamental standards of quality and safety and we publish what we find to help people choose care.

Benefits Package: CQC additionally offer an excellent benefits package of 27+ days annual leave (increasing with years of service) and bank holidays, NHS pension scheme, NHS fleet hire, cycle scheme, childcare vouchers, employee support package and an employee discount scheme.

About the role

A key member of the Parliamentary, Government and Stakeholder Engagement (PGSE) team, this is a prominent and essential role within CQC’s Engagement Directorate.

The role is to deliver and evaluate an effective and value-for-money programme of speaking engagements for the organisation and to design, deliver and maintain a bank of presentations for all CQC staff. The post-holder will work across the team to ensure speeches are delivered for senior colleagues and exhibition arrangements are co-ordinated with maximum benefit achieved.

This post is the only one of its kind at CQC giving the national and local view of engagement opportunities through speaking engagements and how they link to exhibitions and wider engagement planning. It helps to ensure consistency and value for money in what we do, removes duplication, supports speakers at all levels up to the Chair, launches our biggest publications and provides many opportunities for onward engagement.

The Senior Communications and Engagement Officer will deliver consistent messaging for CQC’s senior leaders. to ensure our work and findings reach the right audiences at the right time. The successful applicant will also be responsible for organising large scale stakeholder events as required, for example launch national reports, to communicate CQC’s regulatory findings.

The Senior Communications and Engagement Officer will support the Planning, Events and Speechwriting Manager to prepare presentations and speeches for senior CQC staff, commissioning and researching content and designing slides. Designed for external speaker engagements, these presentations communicate our work and findings in an engaging fashion, tailored to the audience and speech in question.

The post-holder will work closely with the exhibitions function and key external conference organisers to develop a long term speaker engagement plan - up to 12 months in advance - linking the plan to future CQC publications and campaigns, large shows where we have an exhibition presence, social media plans and the external stakeholder environment.

The role will also involve occasional support for other team members – supporting events, exhibitions and engagement with Parliamentarians or government departments.

About You

As Senior Communications and Engagement Officer, you will be highly effective at building relationships, both internally and externally, with strong influencing skills and the confidence and ability to work with colleagues at all levels of the organisation. You will be persuasive, organised and skilled at clear planning in an ever-changing environment.  You will have excellent oral and written communication skills along with experience of developing and communicating messages in a complex regulatory environment. Experience of transforming complex information into narrative which is clear and engaging would be helpful. A good understanding of the health and social care environment is key. Good knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel are essential and a sense of design and editing is preferable.
