Job Details

Save the Children UK is looking for new Trustees to join our Board. Our Trustees play a pivotal role in setting the strategic direction of our organisation, as well as holding management to account to ensure we are delivering our best for children every day.

For these roles, we welcome applications from candidates with a range of skills and experience including:

International development or humanitarian work: as one of the world's leading children's charities, we have both the expertise and the experience to make real, lasting change to children's lives. As well as responding to emergencies, we run development programmes in the UK and around the world that ensure children survive, learn and are protected. We would welcome applications from candidates with experience in international development or humanitarian work.

Or

Human Resources: we welcome individuals with an extensive background in HR or organisational development, in order to provide insight and guidance to the HR function and the Board. Candidates would ideally have experience of developing and executing HR strategies and related goals, with the ability to demonstrate a wide-ranging knowledge of workforce development.

Or

Mobilisation: for nearly 100 years we have been speaking up for children’s rights as well as delivering programmes which save and change children’s lives. In our next strategy period we aspire to become the world’s foremost campaigning force for and with children. We would welcome applications from candidates with experience in one or more of the following: digital organising, social action with children and young people, transnational campaigns, advocacy, mobilising local communities and / or those with lived experience of poverty, displacement or conflict

Save the Children UK recognises the value of diversity in all its forms at all levels of the organisation, including at Board level. We celebrate its role in the creation of an inclusive workplace culture and thrive on the range of experience and insight diversity brings to our organisation. We want to increase the diversity of our leadership and particularly encourage applications from those who identify as disabled, LGBT+, Black, Asian or other ethnic minority, and hail from diverse social and educational backgrounds.

Save the Children UK is advertising these posts on a number of prominent national jobs websites. We will assess candidates against the requirements of the role.

Candidates should submit a CV (including comprehensive details of key achievements and responsibilities) along with a covering letter which fully addresses the competencies outlined in the role description and person specification.

Applications should be completed on Save the Children UK’s website. The closing date for applications is 11:59pm (GMT) on Sunday 13th January 2019.

The shortlist of candidates will be determined in the following weeks and candidates invited for interview with our appointment panel. Successful candidates will be confirmed in February.

Trustees are required to attend quarterly Board meetings at Save the Children UK’s Head Office in Farringdon, London, and an annual Board call. They will also be asked to join one or more of the Board’s subcommittees, which requires an additional time commitment, and may be asked to undertake overseas travel on behalf of Save the Children UK.

While this role is not remunerated, Trustees will receive reimbursement for reasonable expenses incurred during work on behalf of Save the Children UK.

At Save the Children UK we are committed to the safeguarding and protection of children in our work. We will do everything possible to ensure that only those who are suitable to work with children are recruited to work for us. This post is subject to a range of vetting checks including a criminal records disclosure.

If you share our belief in the power of children, join the fight. It takes relentless determination, creativity and a real commitment to real change. Because every child should be able to make their mark on their world and help to build a better future. We look forward to hearing from you.

To apply please visit our website.

Company

We're the world's independent children's charity. We're outraged that millions of children are still denied proper healthcare, food, education and protection. We're working flat out to get every child their rights and we're determined to make further, faster changes. How many? How fast? It's up to you.

We're working flat-out to right the fundamental wrongs that affect children.

Too many children are still dying because they haven't got enough food or because they can't get treatment for simple illnesses. Millions aren't getting an education and are being exploited and abused. This is not good enough.

We're changing this, partly by working directly with children, and partly by using our experience and influence to persuade governments and others who are responsible for children to do the right thing by them.

We seek out the most marginalised children, wherever they are in the world, so that means we work in a really broad range of countries, from fragile states like Afghanistan, to developed countries like here in the UK. We work closely with our colleagues in the International Save the Children Alliance, both in our programmes with children and in our international campaigns and advocacy work.

We have high ambitions for what's achievable for children - we aim to inspire dramatic change for children and to involve them in creating that change. We'd like you to get involved too.
