Position: Dementia Support Worker
Location: Wellington, Shropshire
Contract type: Part Time, Permanent
Hours: 21 per week
Salary: £12,207 actual per annum

About the role:
They are seeking a Dementia Support Worker to cover the Newport area within Telford and Wrekin.
As a Dementia Support Worker you will provide support, information and guidance to people with dementia, their carers and wider family or friends throughout Shrewsbury. They are looking for people who can support creative solutions within this challenging role. The support is provided in a range of settings, including the client’s home, community and in group. The support will include enabling service users to have a great understanding of dementia, plan for the future, as well as signposting and providing referrals to other services. To ensure service users continue to live as they want to within their community you will also work with local volunteers who are supporting local communities to be ‘dementia friendly’.
As the role covers a large area the ability to travel independently would be preferable.
About you:
They are looking for an individual who has gained a NVQ level 3 (or equivalent), with a demonstrable knowledge of dementia and the needs of those living with dementia and their carer’s. You will work with service users to establish their needs and create a support plan. An understanding of data protection and confidentiality is essential.
To be successful in this role you will have excellent communication skills, be able to manage your time and priorities your roles. You should have relevant experience of record keeping and report writing and be confident in the use of IT, this role involves regular use of IT packages, therefore a good standard of IT would be desirable.
You will have proven facilitation skills as well as being a good listener. You will also have a sound understanding of the value of groups. You should have a caring style and an understanding of a person centred approach. Experience of working with statutory and voluntary agencies would be an advantage. An understanding of relevant legislation such as the mental capacity act is required.
You will be part of a team in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and across a wider Locality making a difference to the lives of people affected by dementia.
