Description

  • Develop and implement the organisation's PR strategy, working closely with senior management, policy and marketing teams
  • Work closely with and advise the Director on the delivery of the organisation's proactive and responsive messaging to the media
  • Managing both the activity and staff of the press office
  • Proactively raising the organisation's profile and increasing press coverage in national media
  • Developing media opportunities for key staff and spokespeople (internal and external)
  • Provide crisis management plans and respond to situations that require PR/media guidance as appropriate
  • Build strong relationships and act as a point of contact between the organisation and the senior press contacts including government departments, other business organisations and commercial partners
  • Manage the media monitoring carried out by the public relations team including provision of a daily briefing, a news cutting service and ensuring key staff aware of issues that affect the organisation's work or reputation
  • Build and maintain an industry leading social media presence with which to interact and influence the media online
  • Budget and line management

Profile

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of media relations work and developing PR strategies and campaigns
  • Understanding of how online and social media plays a part in communications objectives
  • Solid media knowledge, with a focus on business, economic and political journalists and editors, and with an ability to identify and build new contacts
  • Strong networking and relationship building skills with ability to engage with journalists and internal and external stakeholders of all levels
  • Creative, proactive and professional approach to work, able to work effectively and efficiently under pressure and to deadlines
  • Confident communicator with excellent writing and interpersonal skills with ability to translate complex issues into plain English to ensure that public understanding of the organisation's work is maximised
  • Collaborative management style and able to show an awareness and respect of different ideas, viewpoints and working styles
  • Previous line management experience

Desirable

  • Proven experience of managing a busy, high pressure press department
  • Previous experience within a membership body

Job Offer

  • A salary of between £50,000 and £60,000 commensurate with experience
