Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop media handling plans and produce clear content, including lines to take, press releases, articles, Q&A and other PR documents for a number of policy areas
  • Develop creative communications plans to support proactive stories on campaigns
  • Develop strong relationships with key trade, local and national journalists to facilitate strong coverage
  • Monitor and ensure a prompt and effective media relations response to breaking news, including providing reactive crisis communications support as required, writing briefing and scripts ahead of media interviews and preparing spokespeople before media appearances
  • Provide media advice/support to all departments in line with the overall strategy and priorities of the organisation
  • Evaluate media coverage, including social media, sharing coverage with policy teams as appropriate and revising communications plans if needed
  • Work collaboratively with teams across the organisations including senior leaders to assist in the delivery of effective communication strategies
  • Carry out administrative duties as required, including compiling the daily news summary as part of a rota

Profile

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience working in a press team environment
  • Strong networking and relationship building skills with ability to engage with journalists and internal and external stakeholders of all levels
  • Able to gain trust of the senior management team quickly, dealing with them confidently sometimes in demanding or pressurised situations
  • Proven experience of producing high quality, engaging communications for media contacts and external stakeholders
  • Confident communicator with excellent writing and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to translate complex issues and language into plain English to ensure that public understanding of the organisation's work is maximised
  • Creative approach with a proactive attitude to finding and telling compelling stories, and uses initiative to identify opportunities for news coverage using different communications channels
  • Able to prioritise and organise workload with minimum supervision, sometimes under pressure or dealing with high volumes of work
