Position: Housing & Support Deputy Manager - Elmbridge

About the role:

The main purpose of this role is to support the Housing & Support Manager, deputising in their absence, to manage the team ensuring they receive appropriate support, training and development. To ensure the team provides high-quality Housing & Support Services and to empower named clients by providing holistic one to one support, while reflecting our client's values in everything you do.

You will also have responsibilities for Safeguarding, Housing Management, Financial responsibilities and administration.

Responsibility covers a team of 7 full-time staff, 2 Resident Volunteers and a number of sessional staff, plus 56 clients in 12 properties across the borough Elmbridge. The post is based in the office at their 24-hour staffed hostel at Hersham Road and the successful applicant will be expected to assist in the sleep-in duties for the Hostel, usually no more than one each week, for which an additional payment of £33.00 per night is paid. These sleep-in duties are under review with looking to remove them from the Deputy Managers job description in the near future. Regular staff sleep in only on week nights as week-ends and bank holidays are covered by a small and established team of sessional staff. The Elmbridge team has no on-call responsibilities for its own area as these are covered by staff in two neighbouring teams.

Alongside the hostel, the Elmbridge team supports clients in 10 other properties, comprising shared and single units and assists clients with a wide range of support needs.

The client group includes:

- Single vulnerable people with support needs
- Young people, some leaving care
- People with mental health needs

There is a small degree of specialisation in some of the projects:

- 2 house for young people x 3, each with a resident volunteer
- 10 spaces in three shared houses for single people with a higher support need
- A block of six single flats for people with enduring mental health needs
- Two flats offering temporary accommodation

About You:

The successful candidate will join an established and thriving project which is an intrinsic part of local homelessness and supported housing provision. As well a Hostel team of five, there is a small sub-team of 2 covering the higher support service, who do not do sleep-in duties but do undertake on-calls for the wider area. The Deputy will have some supervisory responsibility for this sub-team and some oversight responsibilities for referrals and administration.

The Deputy will be expected to carry a caseload of clients as well as having some staff management duties and additional administration responsibilities along with keeping a positive relationship with key partners in local authorities, other housing providers, referring agencies and mental health and social services. The role will require substantial reserves of energy and enthusiasm in addition to the formal requirements.

Specific qualities required for the post are:

- An understanding of team dynamics
- An understanding of the supervisory / appraisal process
