CHIEF ACCOUNTANT

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Chief Accountant within the International Headquarters of The Salvation Army, one of the largest voluntary organisations in the world covering 131 countries.  The Chief Accountant serves as a key resource for the organisation and provides daily financial oversight to ensure financial records are complete, accurate and compliant as well as working proactively and cooperatively with management and staff to implement solutions as required.

Role Responsibilities:

·         Supervise/manage 6 people within the Accounts team

·         Take the lead in pending introduction of new accounting software (NetSuite)

·         Prepare statutory year end accounts for 2 registered charities under Charities SORP (FRS 102)

·         Coordinate monthly and year end close and presentation of management accounts

·         Budget preparation and monitoring 

·         Liaison with external auditors and tax advisors

·         Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures and controls

·         Oversee tax compliance

Candidate Requirements:

• Certified Public Accountant, CA, ACCA or equivalent
• Related accounting experience (at least 10 years)
• Team management experience
• Knowledge of UK Charities SORP (FRS 102) is preferred
• Willingness to work within the Christian ethos of The Salvation Army and in sympathy with the aims and objectives of The Salvation Army.

Starting salary:            £70,000 plus a travel allowance up to £3,100

Hours:                          35 per week

Annual Leave:              25 days annual leave, plus 8 Bank Holidays per annum
