Job Details
We're looking to recruit a new Public Affairs Officer to support the charity's work by providing public affairs support as part of its policy-led influencing strategies.
In this job you'll help to improve outcomes for people with and affected by heart and circulatory diseases by influencing UK Government policy and legislation on the BHF's influencing priorities.
You'll engage and work with Parliamentarians promoting our work at Westminster and in their individual constituencies, delivering a Westminster and Whitehall engagement programme to help develop the BHF's relationship with key decision-makers and proactively spotting opportunities to advance the interests of the BHF. You'll also have the opportunity to provide public affairs advice and support to coalitions of which the BHF is a member and provide the BHF's input into third party coalition partners' activities and public affairs initiatives where appropriate.
About you
You'll have a sound knowledge of the workings of government and parliamentary procedure, as well as a working knowledge of the devolved administrations from previous work experience in the UK Parliament or via a public affairs agency or in-house public affairs team.
With an interest in and understanding of the external political environment and political developments as they affect the BHF, you'll have an understanding of the political and healthcare environment and the ability to use this knowledge to devise creative ways to influence decision-makers.
With previous experience of successfully influencing political stakeholders to agreed objectives you'll have excellent communication skills able to develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders with ease. You'll have have strong organisational skills and will be able to keep up to date with work and ensure key contacts are kept up to date.
You'll have proven ability to write clearly, concisely and persuasively for political audiences in a variety of formats. You'll be able to summarise complex information swiftly and accurately for a variety of audiences and be able to understand and interpret complex policy issues and express them effectively to a range of audiences.
