Summary

Fundraising at the National Trust is growing in profile and importance. We are now investing in growing the team to deliver an exciting and ambitious strategy to double our fundraising income to £150 million by 2025, which we want you to be part of, and ultimately, help deliver. Our visitors, members and supporters are our lifeblood – and we want to make it easier than ever for them to engage more deeply with our cause, and in turn provide us with the vital income we need to look after special places for ever, for everyone.

‘This is a fixed term contract due to end when the previous employee returns from maternity leave. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 12 months.’

Internally you'll be known as Stewardship & Cultivation Officer and this will be reflected in your contract of employment.

What it's like to work here

We provide the best possible working environment for you throughout the building whilst also promoting and fostering a sociable Heelis Community. Do great things for us and we’ll do great things for you and your career.

Heelis is the Central Office for the National Trust; it was named after one of the Trust’s biggest benefactors Mrs William Heelis. There are approximately 700 staff from across the Trust’s directorates, including the Executive team and the Director General, are based here.

Heelis was designed to be highly sustainable and has won a number of nationally recognised awards. Designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley Architects in 2005, this architectural gem uses timber from our woodlands and wool from Herdwick sheep grazed on Trust farmlands, to help make Heelis a unique working environment.

What you'll be doing

This role will be a centralised role that will be pivotal in engaging our supporters and potential supporters so we can increase our income and respond to the Trust’s evolving priorities. As Philanthropy Stewardship Officer you’ll be responsible for developing and delivering strategic stewardship and cultivation opportunities to support the Philanthropy Team. The events that you will deliver will be critical in enabling the Philanthropy Team to cultivate strong relationships with existing and potential donors to inspire them to make five/six figure gifts.

The post holder will create event management plans and develop effective and efficient event KPI reports. You will also work closely with the Philanthropy Team to create bespoke impact reports to provide high-level, tailored stewardship to our most significant donors. The post holder will ensure professional delivery of a wide range of activities, and work closely with the Stewardship and Cultivation Manager to engage and manage relationships with stakeholders across the organisation.

Who we're looking for

You will be a professional and confident person who has experience of working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders to develop and deliver event ideas, and to create bespoke impact reports for high-level donors. To deliver highly professional impact reports, you will have excellent written communication skills that inspire and engage our supporters.

You will be highly efficient, show self-motivation and initiative. You will have at least one year of previous successful experience of organising and delivering events and working in major gifts/leadership giving fundraising. Right now, you will be looking for a new opportunity to stretch your fundraising skills and work in an exciting and ambitious team. You will champion fundraising within the organisation, have a genuine passion for the National Trust, and you will be an effective ambassador for its values and strategic aims.
