Do you want to work in a nationally award-winning, professionally accredited advice service that puts disrupting inequality in higher education at the heart of everything it does? Are you an experienced advice professional with people and project management experience who understands best practice in delivering advice and support to an excellent standard? Are you passionate about supporting students and improving the student experience at UWL?

The Advice & Student Support Manager is a key role within the UWLSU’s Representation & Advocacy department. The postholder will be responsible for leading our re-accreditation with the Advice Quality Standard, managing our Advice & Outreach Team to deliver excellent advice and customer service and oversee the development of our advocacy projects and proactive student support programmes. You will also be expected to deliver case-based advice and advocacy interventions in complex student cases. The post holder will work to ensure that our Team is supporting students through academic regulatory processes such as mitigating circumstances, academic appeals, complaints and disciplinary processes at UWL.

You will coach the team to provide independent, non-judgmental and accessible advice to students that will empower them to make informed choices about their case. An understanding of external support networks is also advantageous, as our Advisors are expected to identify and provide signposting guidance to students that will help them access suitable support for any issues they raise in advice appointments. We also pride ourselves on our partnership work with the University of West London and as such the postholder will be expected to demonstrate commitment to working in partnership with key stakeholders in the student experience at UWL.

Our Advice and Customer Services are non-traditional. We are a dynamic, proactive and strategically-driven team that is committed to innovation and excellence for our students. We are looking for an individual who will act as a champion of our mission to erase inequality and break down barriers to success and retention on students’ own terms at UWL. You will have experience in working with and supporting individuals and groups with high quality advice, and will have represented individuals or groups in meetings or hearings and have a proven track record of success in this area. You will have experience of working effectively on your own initiative, turning around complex casework efficiently and to a high standard. You will have a strong commitment to equality and diversity, understand the importance of positive working relationships, display high levels of self-awareness and empathy and understand without a doubt that the union exists for its members.
