Job Details

A great opportunity has arisen for a temporary Policy Manager (part-time) for a health related charity in order to drive policy development across the charity on issues relating to retail, fundraising and charity regulation. Drawing on the expertise of internal and external colleagues to develop robust evidence-based positions on behalf of the organisation.
This would be a part time role of around 3.5 days initially. This may well increase to full time if there is a requirement within the team.


Key Responsibilities will include:


Drive the development of the charitypolicy across a range of retail, fundraising and charity issues, ensuring that policies are based on research, clear analysis and coherent arguments.
Develop policy papers and effective policy solutions by drawing on the knowledge of internal and external experts
Identify and champion opportunities to incorporate policy messages into the charity, multimedia work and other relevant activities across the organisation
Build relationships with policy counterparts in relevant organisations and manage relationships with a range of external partners
Act as a media spokesperson on relevant issues
Prepare briefs/tenders and manage research which will identify policy issues and/or advance policy objectives.
Respond to Government consultations and consultations from other relevant organisations, liaising with colleagues and external organisations as needed.
Maintain the relevant Consultation Log as appropriate.
Scan the external environment and produce reports/recommendations on broad trends and issues affecting the charity
Establish a good working relationship with civil servants and umbrella organisations
Identify policy opportunities/threats and develop effective strategies to exploit them or reduce their negative effect.


In order to apply you should have the following skills and experience:


Knowledge of the charity sector
Experience of researching and developing policy, preferably with a charity policy background and with knowledge of the UK voluntary sector
Ability to lead and contribute to multi-disciplinary cross-hierarchical terms
Ability to manage internal and external policy research projects
Proven analytical and complex problem solving skills
Understanding of how policy work supports public campaigning and public affairs activity
Ability to plan own workload, ensure effective time management of projects and ensure deadlines are met
Ability to work as part of a team and be flexible in approach to work.
Good communication skills, both oral and written
Effective interpersonal and negotiation skills, including ability to develop good working relationships with senior managers and external stakeholders.
Ability to work under pressure
