The organisation

Young Women’s Trust is the only organisation that focuses solely on supporting and representing women aged 18-30, in England and Wales, who are unemployed or struggling to live on low pay. We offer free employment coaching and personalised advice on job applications to support young women into work and out of poverty and we conduct research and run campaigns to give young women fair opportunities to access, sustain and progress in work.

We have ambitious plans to scale up our work to reach more disadvantaged young women and to extend the influence and impact of our research and campaigns, which makes this an exciting time to join the charity, and help us support more women achieve their own ambitions.

The opportunity

The Honorary Treasurer will lead on the strategic financial management of the Charity and be a full member of the Board of Trustees and Chair the Finance & General Purposes Committee. The Finance and GP Committee plays a key role in supporting the Board by overseeing all of the financial, HR and property aspects of the Charity, including monitoring the performance of the investment managers.

We already have a talented group of trustees, including 2 young women from our beneficiary group, but are seeking to diversify the Board even further. We encourage applications from all sections of the community. Most Board and Committee meetings are held in central London in our wheelchair accessible offices near Angel tube station.

The Board meets at least 4 times a year (usually between 4pm and 7pm) plus one Board Away Day. The Finance and General Purposes Committee also meets around 4 times a year usually during working hours.

The appointment is for a three-year term, plus a second three-year term if appointed which may be extended for a further year, after which the Treasurer is expected to step down.

We are also looking for new Board members with financial skills or investment knowledge who are willing to be members of the Finance & General Purposes Committee.

The person

We’re looking for someone who shares our passion for making a difference for young women. The ideal candidate will be a qualified or part qualified accountant, have significant experience and knowledge of strategic financial management, understand high quality governance and the role of the Board and be able to work as part of a team to help the Charity to meet its objectives. They should be excellent communicators and should also be able and willing to give up some time to support the work of the staff and volunteers.

How to apply

If you have the skills and determination we’re looking for please supply the following:

  • A current comprehensive CV outlining your key achievements in previous and current roles
  • A supporting statement, explaining how you believe your skills and experience match the requirements of the role, directly addressing the person specification

The closing date for applications is 21st December 2018.   We will get back to applicants by 4th January.

Please note that interviews are likely to be on Friday 18th January

This role, like most trustee roles is unremunerated.
