Donor Engagement Manager

Dulwich College is an academically selective independent school in south London for boys aged 7-18 years. The college was founded in 1619 by the Elizabethan actor, Edward Alleyn, with the purpose of educating twelve poor scholars. Today, it has about 1,500 pupils (of whom 120 are boarders) thus making it one of the largest independent schools in the UK. It is a member of both the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference and the Eton Group. It is conveniently located only 12 minutes by rail from Victoria station.

2019 will be the 400th Anniversary of the College, and amidst a large scale programme of celebrations we will be focusing on radically increasing the number of bursaries for talented pupils whose families might not be able to afford school fees. This follows a long tradition of providing financial support, particularly in the 1950s and 60s when between 60% and 90% of boys attended Dulwich on free places, financed by a number of local authorities.

The Donor Engagement Manager is a key appointment that will underpin the College’s capacity for fundraising and will be instrumental in creating a genuine culture of philanthropy. Working with the Director of Development and the Master, they will develop and deliver an annual appeal strategy to build widespread support throughout the Dulwich community; with responsibility for creating an exceptional culture of donor care that recognises, celebrates and inspires existing and potential supporters. They will support the delivery of an outstanding major gifts programme through prospect research, proposal writing and portfolio management.

This is an outstanding opportunity to join a sophisticated fundraising and engagement office working at the forefront of philanthropy in education. This role would suit an energetic and enthusiastic individual with a hands-on approach, who has a background in annual appeals or donor care. The right candidate will have the opportunity to shape the role in coming years as the department evolves to meet the challenges of a major fundraising effort around bursaries.

Further details about the role are available from www.dulwich.org.uk/contact/staff-vacancies

Closing date: 4.00pm on Friday 23 November 2018 with interviews taking place week commencing 3 December 2018.

Application forms, accompanied by a covering letter, should be submitted to the HR Department, Dulwich College, Dulwich Common, London, SE21 7LD or emailed to recruitment@dulwich.org.uk.
