Support Worker

Our client is a charity based in East London.
Position: Social Care Support Worker
Location: London E3
Job type: Part Time, Permanent
Hours: 26 hours per week, Monday to Friday 5 hours per day (please refer to the working pattern in the recruitment pack)
Salary: £17,745 per annum pro rata
Benefits: 27 days plus 3 days for Christmas plus Bank Holidays; plus 1 extra day that all staff get off for their birthday; Pension; Contribution made – details on request

About the role:

- Supporting clients ensuring their skills are developed while enhancing health and wellbeing through participation across the wide range of services available at the Bromley by Bow Centre and through one to one support in the community.
- Deliver support in a person-centred way and in accordance with the person’s individual needs and wishes
- Enabling clients to participate and be valued members of the community in which they live by supporting independence, choice, control and integration
- Ensure clients achieve outcomes as guided by their Individual Support Plan and Service Delivery Plan
- Provide regular feedback against the agreed outcomes for a client’s Individual Support Plan, Service Delivery Plan and Risk Assessments
- Support clients to identify, select and plan their activities through informed decision making
- Support individuals and small groups to participate in activities within the community.
- Ensure the full participation of clients in activities, including educational, training, recreational and social needs
- Develop, maintain and ensure all communication with clients and their family and / or carer is appropriate to their needs
- Provide personal care and support where necessary
- Handle petty cash where necessary and safeguard money for clients

About you:

- Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification or equivalent (or minimum level 2 and the ability and commitment to achieve Level 3 within 12 months)
- Minimum of 1 years’ proven experience of supporting disabled people and their carers
- Experience of planning support and activities based on the needs of the client
- Experience of delivering personalised support
- Experience of developing and maintaining relationships with clients, families / carers
- Experience of working in a diverse and multicultural environment
- Able to travel on your own and with clients to a variety of locations
- Able to respond to difficult situations in a calm and appropriate manner
- Able to develop relationships with a variety of people and work with them in a positive and cooperative way
- Able to physically support clients, e.g. manual handling, supporting wheelchair users, completion of domestic tasks such as shopping, cooking and cleaning
- Able to support clients to learn and develop new skills
- Able to prepare written information to a good accurate standard, for example updating client records, including medication, Accident and Incident forms
- Able to support clients with on-line activities, including web searches and accessing email accounts
- Good numeracy skills e.g. able to handle cash and payments on behalf of the client
- Good level of verbal and written communication skills
- Aware of issues affecting disabled people, including people with Learning Disabilities, Mental Health Support Needs and/ or Older People
- Good understanding of health and safety issues in the delivery of support for disabled people
