Job Description:
The communications officer has a key role to play in planning and delivering communications to key groups, such as supporters, volunteers or staff. The post holder will write, edit, coordinate and publish content across various channels, including the website, social media, and print and online marketing materials. They will also plan and implement communications and marketing campaigns to raise awareness or funds, while progressively improving organisational understanding of what works for different audiences. They will support in organizing public events at Greencoat Place and in reporting during said events (pictures, videos, articles).
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Key areas of responsibility will include:
Digital:
• Develop, manage and update content for website
• Plan a social media strategy and maintain social media accounts
• Plan and create multi-media communications materials
Communications:
• Produce, edit and distribute updates and materials for external and internal audiences – including the annual review, Changemakers magazine, News Bulletins and leaflets
• Help organize, market, communicate and report events
• Provide communication support for programmes and initiatives
• Provide communication support for marketing campaigns to raise awareness or funds
Operational Support:
• Act as liaison between the programmes and initiatives and the Communications department
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
Technical skills, knowledge and experience:
Essential:
• Excellent command of English
• Experience of producing copy across all media and digital channels
• Flare for writing concise, compelling copy to deadlines
• Experience of producing press releases, articles, newsletters or presentations
• Knowledge of max social media e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and SoundCloud
• Proven experience of managing organisational websites, including planning content priorities, writing, preparing and uploading content, maintaining the backend CMS (ideally using Drupal) and working with developers to develop functionality and solve technical issues
• A strong track record of effectively utilising and developing a presence on key social media platforms – including Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram and Twitter – to build relationships and share information
• Experience of measuring the performance of websites and digital channels, establishing/reporting against performance indicators
Desirable:
• Knowledge/Experience of the communications in a not for profit organisation
• Knowledge and experience of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, InDesign (or similar design software)
• Knowledge of best practice in website/intranet design, search engine optimisation techniques and a good understanding of emerging digital trends
• Experience in organizing, marketing and reporting public events
• Knowledge/experience in campaigning and fundraising
Personal Skills/ Attributes:
• Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
• Strong writing, copyediting and proofreading skills with the ability to make complex information accessible
• Communications ‘flair’ with the ability to think creatively, spot a good story and communicate this in the most interesting and/or effective way
• Excellent organisational and project management skills
• Appreciation of cross-cultural sensitivities with the ability to exercise discretion and show sound political judgement
• High motivation, self-starter and proactive attitude
• Commitment to and interest in our client's philosophy, values, work and approach
Job Title: Communications Officer

Term: 2 days a week fixed-term contract (flexible, can work from home some hours per day)
