Telling Brent’s story and improving lives

Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community and the Mayor of London has also named us London Borough of Culture 2020 – so it is an exciting time to join us.

The Post

Are you an ambitious newshound who wants to work for an award-winning council which is going places? Can you sniff out reputational threats while pouncing on opportunities to generate positive headlines? Can you develop and deliver creative communications campaigns, based on hard evidence, which help improve local people’s lives? Are you as comfortable drafting a pithy tweet, filming and editing a 20 second clip on your iPhone, or pulling together a comprehensive campaign plan? If so, we want to hear from you.

We are looking for a capable Communications Account Manager to join our talented and energetic communications team. You will have experience of generating and ‘selling in’ proactive news stories to trade, regional and national media as well as a strong working knowledge of communication campaign planning and delivery, digital, social media and media law.

This is a rare opportunity to join a high performing team and the role requires a high degree of personal responsibility and reports directly into the Head of Communications. In return, we offer a competitive salary working in a fantastic location, local government pension, training and development opportunities, paid CIPR membership, and a chance to really make your mark and develop your career.

Calm under pressure, you will take the lead on a defined portfolio area, providing senior councillors and officers with communications support and advice to enhance the council’s reputation. We are looking for someone who can deliver results in a fast-paced communications environment with a proven track record of building relationships with and gaining the trust of senior managers and councillors.

You will join an award-winning team which is continually striving to improve and produce great communications work which makes a real difference to the lives of people living in Brent. There is a great deal of scope to come up with you own ideas and make them happen. We place a lot of emphasis on training and expect team members to continue with their professional development.

If you have the ambition, resilience and energy to operate at the heart of local decision making, dealing with high profile issues and making a positive difference every day, Brent may be the place for you.
