Harris Hill is delighted to be partnering with University College London Hospitals as they embark on their search to find a new Head of Charitable Giving.

UCLH is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Head of Charitable Giving to further develop and implement a fundraising strategy across the Trust, working with all stakeholders to ensure that priority income streams are achieved. The successful candidate must have the ability to work strategically in delivering measurable, cost-effective results that enable the strategic priorities of the Trust to become a reality.

The Head of Charitable Giving will maximise fundraising income by developing, implementing and managing fundraising across a diversified range of income streams to achieve long term, sustainable income growth.

Their immediate priority will be to raise substantial funds for two capital builds.

This is a fulltime permanent position. However, the trust will consider four days per week for a candidate that requires this pattern of working.

Key Responsibilities:

To lead, manage and implement a Trust wide fundraising strategy that supports the strategic priorities of the Trust and meets agreed income targets.

To directly manage the Fundraising team including recruitment, induction, supervision, personal development, objective setting and appraisal; s/he will ensure that all administrative duties are carried out by the team and that the Trust and Charity protocols are adhered to.

To research and identify prospects with whom the Hospital will aim to develop significant philanthropic relationships. These will be drawn from the corporate sector, high net-worth individuals, trusts and foundations and other bodies from whom funding may be obtained as appropriate.

To manage and lead on an active prospect list, providing ongoing overview of a wide variety of relationships and possible leads to encourage maximum philanthropic support for the Trust, and to solicit major gifts in the range of six and seven figure sums and upwards with the support of senior colleagues.

To be responsible for formulating and implementing stewardship strategies for all donors for whom the post holder is the primary relationship manager.

To play a full role in the commissioning, drafting and review of bespoke funding proposals for major gift solicitations

To develop and execute external and internal fundraising communications and marketing activity.



Essential experience to be considered:


Experience of running a fundraising unit and creating/implementing a fundraising strategy

Experience of running a fundraising unit and creating/implementing a fundraising strategy

Proven major gift fundraising success, including the self-drive and ability to directly solicit six or seven figure gifts and/or to enable senior colleagues/volunteers to successfully conduct the process, adapting strategies to specific donor circumstances as they arise

Evidence of the ability to build and maintain professional relationships with a wide range of different individuals and teams

Managing a team and developing staff

An ability to think both strategically and tactically about the relations between potential donors and fundraising goals, and to develop long-term fundraising strategies.

Ability to secure Senior Management and Board approval for strategy

Strong networking, relationship building and diplomacy skills

Highly numerate and adept at constructing budgets and forecasts

Proven experience of making presentations to internal committees and to organisations



Salary 59,000- 65,000
